Moving Stories Master Class: Adapting Page to Screen
with Paul Quarrington, Judith Keenan and Guests
Even small books are ?big? in terms of screen narrative and visual detail, and preserving every element in the process of adapting page to screen is an impossible task. At the same time, the added dimensions of sound, music, graphics and performance that are inherent in moving pictures can convey in a heart-beat what might take one hundred book pages to deliver.? A filmmaker?s challenge, therefore, involves both distillation and amplification of their chosen source.
The Moving Stories Page to Screen Master Class will catalyze this hands-on workshop by screening clips from films and television in the context of their scripts and the book which inspired them.? The workshop will address the creative challenge from the perspective of craft as well as the realities of production.? Depending on the composition of class participants, top-line considerations for marketing and distribution will be addressed in context of creative production.
This session will be of interest to filmmakers, animators, illustrators, authors, screenwriters, directors and producers looking to option books or stories. Participants are encouraged to bring works-in-progress and / or titles they are interested in adapting for the screen, including their own work.
